Olson Prayer Update

March-April 2010

Dear Family and Friends,

We trust you had a wonderful Easter weekend!  He is risen!  He is risen indeed!

For the first time in Bolivia, elections for the positions of Governor and Mayor were held on Easter Sunday.  We were surprised at the lack of protests on part of the Catholic churches.  Evangelical churches worked around the elections changing the day of their services to Friday, Saturday, or Sunday evening.  The climate politically is changing and at times threatens the spiritual climate.

We rejoiced to be part of an event where the opposite was true. DeAnna has recently begun to teach English at a Korean Evangelical University recently inaugurated.  The wife of Korean Pastor David Yonggi Cho, Grace Kim-Cho, was coming to town to be part of the inauguration and to hold conferences for Pastors and leaders.  They needed a translator for her from English to Spanish, Talo our fellow missionary was asked to do the job. There were over 1700 in attendance at a luxury hotel.  At the end of the conference by invitation, the President of Bolivia, Evo Morales entered the room as a presentation was made to offer 100 indigenous students free scholarships at the Korean University. At one point in his speech, President Evo thanked the pastors and leaders for their prayers.  It was incredible to us that the President accepted the invitation in that kind of setting.  It was a good day!

Recently DeAnna has participated in 2 special events for our women. Here in Santa Cruz we were pleasantly surprised at the attendance for our annual women’s retreat.  Last year there were 85 in attendance, so we planned for 120. 150 women and some children graced our presence that day.  It was a wonderful time! We had elections for a new national womens' committee and are excited about their desire to put their hearts into that ministry. Then last weekend DeAnna was up in a small town just outside of LaPaz where she spoke 4 times for the annual women’s retreat in that area.

This semester Jerry will be teaching a class on Romans and Galatians for our theology students.

We do appreciate your prayers for the different ministries we are involved in.

In Christ,

Jerry and DeAnna Olson
