Prayer Update – April, 2012

Dear Prayer Partners,

It has now been a week since I arrived (Jerry) here in Puerto Rico – and what a beautiful island this is. Last week I got up early to walk along the beach and have my devotions. As the birds sang and the waves crashed I couldn’t help but think what a wonderful world our Lord has made. After a time I found a place to sit and read only to observe a small boat with 3 men spreading out their fishing net. Soon they worked their way into shore and began pulling in the net by hand (see picture below). It was indeed a special morning with the Lord as well as a wonderful introduction into the life and culture of Puerto Rico.

Camp Caribe, Juana Díaz Puerto Rico

Camp Caribe is a 24 acre children and youth camp located right on the Caribbean Ocean. With beds for almost 200 campers we are able to host churches and schools from all across the island as well as work/ministry teams that come down from the United States. In addition to the campers dorm rooms we have a large enclosed gymnasium, chapel, kitchen, dining room, a very unique water slide … and the ocean of course. This past month we have sponsored a number work teams from the US as well as our own spring retreats for children and high school students. We were really glad to see 3 teenagers accept the Lord at our latest high school retreat. My job will be to direct the camp, looking for increased opportunities to include Puerto Ricans in leadership as well as marketing the camp on a larger scale.

Family

DeAnna is still in western Michigan and will be there until May 2nd when she will join me here in Puerto Rico. Aubrey (19yrs) will be going “home” to Bolivia for the month of May to visit with her friends and to be there for her cousin’s high school graduation. She will then return to Muskegon MI where she will work and spend the summer with her grandparents. Danae (22yrs) is finishing her semester in college in Grand Rapids MI and then traveling to Colorado for her third summer working at a resort ranch in the Rocky Mountains. Her plan is to return to Grace Bible College in the fall for her senior year.

Prayer Requests

- For DeAnna’s safe arrival May 2nd and our adjustments to the camp ministry.

- For this coming weekend as I travel to New York to participate in a mission’s conference with a church that has sent work teams to Camp Caribe on several occasions.

- For a church youth group retreat this coming weekend along with our leadership training retreat the last week in April.

In Christ,
